Don't read this. Unless you want to. Then you can read it. But don't let anyone force you. Unless it's life or death. Then I guess you should.
You have been warned. So it's not my fault.
Okay, one last warning.
SPOILERS
Visually I thought it was great. The cinematography and the Henson puppets were amazing. I'm so glad they used puppets! I hope movies start using Henson creations in their films more often now. I love Henson.
The music was great and the more I thought about the story afterward the more I liked it. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate or dislike the story. It just wasn't my favorite part of the movie at first. Mainly because I liked the visuals so much. Pretty much the whole movie could make great photographs.
It was a lot darker and sadder than I expected. Once it was over, I thought, it wasn't really a kids movie. At least it wasn't like most kids movies that they put out. I can see kids liking it. But I could also see them being bored. Smaller children I could see being afraid in some parts. Which surprised me.
Anyway, I liked it a lot. I want to go see it again at the hopkins theatre when it gets there. I want to let it age a bit in my mind before I see it again.
i think visually the movie was a 10. i think the characters were amazingly beautiful, beyond my hopes.
i also felt the story was a bit diluted, which is expected for a ten page, 30 word kids book (exaggeration). although i loved the dialog and felt the many odd pauses were quite refreshing for a kids movie.
it was sad enough to make me want to cry, i laughed 5-10 times, and it was scary enough that i know i would have been terrified as a kid.
all in all... it was a very impressive movie. especially on the big screen.
