wow. this image is magical. i really like the effects.

do you mind giving insight into how you managed to swirl the colors in the background and get everything to look so cool?

Thanks.

I wish I would have done it slightly different, hiding the large light behind Kelsey's head. But I like how it turned out.

I set my camera to manual mode and use a longer shutter speed. Something like 4 or 5 seconds. Then I take the picture in a darker room, but with some light behind her and a very little bit of light in front of her(from a computer screen). I hand hold the camera. Then part way through the exposure I freeze her by bouncing an off camera flash off something to the side of her and back towards her. I use one of these, http://www008.upp.so-net.ne.jp/shuu2/minoltaAUTO118X2.jpg. It's from an older film camera I have that my grandpa gave me a while ago. I push the button manually to set it off.

So since the only part of the picture that gets light from the flash is Kelsey, the flash freezes her exposure. But leaves the rest of the picture blurred from hand holding a longer exposure.

Hope that makes some sense.

kris wow. i must say that is an ingenius method. i serious love the result, it create a painterly feel to the image. like its photo realistic, and almost abstract expressionist in the background.

its very compelling. this is a great photo. please do more using this method.

Thanks Billy.

Not really my idea. People do it all the time with motion and then setting their flash to go off at the end of their exposure.
I guess though I haven't seen anyone do it exactly like I did. But I'm sure somebody out there has done it that way before.

I agree, I should do some more like this. I like how they turn out if I do it correctly.
